Article 279: The FSB Finalises 12 Sound Practices for AI in Finance
The Financial Stability Board has published its final "sound practices" for responsible adoption of AI across financial institutions, distilled into twelve measures, following a consultation round whose responses the FSB also released. The package is deliberately not binding - "sound practices" is supervisory vocabulary for guidance that national regulators are expected to operationalise their own way.
Key Takeaway: The interesting part is the venue. AI model governance is being written into financial stability frameworks, where the failure modes that matter are model risk, third-party concentration and operational resilience - not capability. That means the first durable, enforceable AI rules most institutions will actually face are not AI rules at all. They are risk-management rules that happen to have an AI clause, and they arrive through the supervisor rather than the legislature.
